Our Locations & Rental Information

Interested in growing your own food? For a small fee, you can rent a plot of land at one of our 15 community garden locations! Plot sizes range from 4′ x 8′ to an 1/8th of an acre. Rentals fees range from $15.00 to $55.00.

Cut your grocery bill, get more fresh fruits and vegetables, and have fun as a family!

Please submit an interest/waitlist form to be contacted for the current growing season. Garden plots will be allocated in the order of sign-up.

Our Locations

Select one of the following locations to learn more about the community garden site. Many of our sites are accessible by bus.

1. Four Seasons

Address: 471 Four Seasons Dr., Hobart, WI 54155

Fencing: This garden is not fenced in. Gardeners are allowed to put up their own temporary fencing at the beginning of the season, due to animals, but fencing must be removed at the end of each season.

Plant Restrictions: This garden is tilled annually. Because of this, all plants must be annuals.

Compost: The Four Seasons Community Garden does not have a compost bin.

Waste: There is not a garbage can available at the Four Seasons Community Garden. Waste must be carried out. 

2. 5th Street

Water: Water is available in a large tank between the plowed beds and in a tank by the raised and no-till beds. Tanks are filled by volunteer labor from Schroeder’s Flowers. Gardeners are encouraged to mulch and conserve water whenever possible.

Fencing: The plowed and raised bed gardens are not fenced in. Gardeners are encouraged to put up their own temporary fencing at the beginning of the season, due to animals. Fencing must be removed at the end of each season. (Note: The no-till garden is fenced, but installing additional personal fencing is recommended, as many animals still enter the garden area.)

Planting Restrictions: The tilled garden is tilled twice a year. Because of this, all plants must be annuals.

Compost: The 5th St Garden does not have a compost system.

Waste:  There is not a garbage can available at the 5th St Garden. Waste must be carried out.

3. 8th Street

Water: Water is available at a water station with three spigots and generously provided by the City. Gardeners are encouraged to mulch and conserve water whenever possible.

Fencing: This garden is not fenced in. Gardeners are encouraged to put up their own temporary fencing at the beginning of the season, due to animals. Fencing must be removed at the end of each season.

Planting Restrictions: The garden is tilled twice a year. Because of this, all plants must be annuals.

Compost: The 8th St Community Garden does not have a compost system.

Waste: Waste must be carried out.

4. Maple and Augusta

Water: Water is available in a large volunteer-filled tank on the north side of the garden, next to the shed. The program pays for the water and gardeners are encouraged to mulch and conserve water whenever possible.

Fencing: This garden is not fenced in. Gardeners are encouraged to put up their own temporary fencing at the beginning of the season, due to animals. Fencing must be removed at the end of each season.

Planting Restrictions: This garden is tilled twice a year. Because of this, all plants must be annuals.

Compost: The Maple and Augusta Community Garden has a compost bin structure that is not actively used for composting. Gardeners pile plant waste in the bin and the City then hauls it away at the end of the year. Anyone interested in actively maintaining this compost bin should contact the garden coordinator.

Waste: There is not a garbage can available at the Maple and Augusta Community Garden. Waste must be carried out.

Other: Gardeners must weed the paths around their plots. This area is each gardener’s responsibility, and failing to weed makes it very difficult for others to access their plots. Laying down cardboard or other mulch at the beginning of the season can be very helpful in preventing weed growth.

5. Church Road

Water: Water is available at a water station with three spigots at the front of the garden. Gardeners are encouraged to mulch and conserve water whenever possible.

Fencing: This garden is not fenced in. Gardeners are allowed to put up their own temporary fencing at the beginning of the season, due to animals, but most gardeners do not find this necessary. Fencing must be removed at the end of each season.

Planting Restrictions: This garden is tilled annually. Because of this, all plants must be annuals.

Compost: The Church Rd Community Garden does not have an active compost system.

Waste: There is not a garbage can available at the Church Rd Community Garden. Waste must be carried out.

Other: Paths around the garden are rutted and can become extremely muddy after rain. Gardeners are encouraged to use caution and park by the water and walk to their plots if needed.

Gardeners must pull their cars well into the community garden area before parking. Gardeners may not park along Church Road, as it is unsafe and part of the area is posted as “No Parking.” 

6. Community Church

Garden Access and Parking:  No parking on grass areas; parking available in lot (please only park in designated parking lanes).

Water: Water is available at the faucet at the side of Community Church, across the parking lot, next to the doors. A hose may be available for gardeners; please make sure to replace after use. Please make sure water is turned off when not in use.

Fencing: This garden is not fenced in. Gardeners are strongly encouraged to put up their own temporary fencing at the beginning of the season, due to animals (deer in particular). Many gardeners find black netting to be effective. Fencing must be removed at the end of each season.

Planting Restrictions: This garden is tilled twice per year. Because of this, all plants must be annuals.

Compost: The Community Church Community Garden does not have a compost bin.

Waste: There is not a garbage can available at the Community Church Community Garden. Waste must be carried out. Please do not use onsite church dumpsters.

Other: Gardeners must weed the paths around their plot. This area is their responsibility, and failing to weed makes it very difficult for others to access their plots.

In addition to fencing, many gardeners make their own scarecrows to keep the deer away. Some ideas are hanging CDs, metal pie tins, or an old shirt. Anything that makes noise, moves, or is reflective can help scare animals away. 

7. Olde North

Water: Permanent water source available. Gardeners are asked to try their best to conserve water, as water is used quickly at this garden. Please note raised beds, in particular tabletop beds, dry out quickly and often require more frequent watering.

Fencing: This garden is fenced in, though smaller animals are able to enter. Gardeners are allowed to put temporary fencing around their plots, but most gardeners do not find this necessary. Fencing must stay within gardeners’ plots and must be removed at the end of the growing season.

Planting Restrictions: This garden is tilled annually. Because of this, all plants must be annuals

Waste: There is a black garbage bin next to the garden shed.

Other: Gardeners are also responsible for weeding the woodchip/gravel area around the edge of their plots.  

8. Kroc Center

Fencing: This garden is fenced in, though smaller animals can enter. Gardeners are allowed to put temporary fencing around their plots, but most gardeners do not find this necessary. Fencing must stay within gardeners’ plots and must be removed and taken off the property at the end of the growing season, by the garden close date. 

Planting Restrictions: This garden is tilled annually. Because of this, all plants must be annuals.

Compost: The Kroc Center Community Garden does not have a compost bin.

Waste: There is not a garbage can available at the Kroc Center Community Garden. Waste must be carried out. 

9. Annunciation

Compost: The Annunciation Community Garden does not have a compost bin. Please do not put plant material in the grass surrounding the garden.

Waste: There is not a garbage can available at the Annunciation Community Garden. Waste must be carried out and not stored onsite.

Parking and Garden Access: IMPORTANT! Gardeners may NOT park in the parking lot next to the garden on Sundays from 7am-11am because of church services.

Please make sure to keep rocks, weeds, and garden materials out of the grass surrounding the garden, as these interfere with maintenance activities.

10. Lions

Planting Restrictions: This garden is plowed annually. Because of this, all plants must be annuals.

Compost: The Lions Community Garden does not have an active compost system.

Waste: There is not a garbage can available at the Lions Community Garden. Waste must be carried out.

Other: Please keep all materials, including rocks, off the grass so as not to interfere with mowing.

Please park in the park’s parking lot and not in adjacent apartment buildings’ parking areas.

Please do not walk in neighbors’ yards and stay within park boundaries.

11. MacArthur Heights

Fencing: This garden is not fenced in. Gardeners are strongly encouraged to put up their own temporary fencing at the beginning of the season due to deer and other animals. Fencing must be removed at the end of each season.

Planting Restrictions: This garden is tilled twice a year. Because of this, all plants must be annuals.

Compost: The MacArthur Heights Community Garden does not have a compost bin.

Waste: There is not a garbage can available at the MacArthur Heights Community Garden. Waste must be carried out and not stored onsite.

Other: IMPORTANT! Gardeners may NOT park in the parking lot next to the garden on Sundays from 8am-12pm and Wednesdays from 6-8pm because of church services. No parking on the grass area.

Please make certain to weed the paths around your plot. This area is your responsibility, and failing to weed makes it very difficult for others to access their plots.

12. Lake Largo

Bathroom: There are no bathroom facilities on site. 

Parking: This garden is in a neighborhood, please park on street. Please no parking on the grass. Follow street parking regulations. The Brown County Community Gardens Program is not responsible for parking tickets or towing expenses. 

Compost: The Main Street Garden does not have a compost system. 

Waste: There is not a garbage can available at the Main Street Garden. Waste must be carried out. 

14. Vets Garden

NOTE: This garden is for veterans. Participants are asked to show proof of military service. The Green Bay Vet Center also holds a weekly gardening group at the garden throughout the summer.

Water: Water is available at a water station with spigots on the western corner of the garden. Water is also available in a large tank on the eastern side of the garden, next to the shed. This thank is generously filled by the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. Gardeners are encourage to mulch and conserve water whenever possible.

Fencing: This garden is not fenced in. Gardeners are encouraged to put up their own temporary fencing at the beginning of the season due to animals, including deer. Fencing must be removed at the end of each season.

Planting Restrictions: Most of this garden is tilled twice a year. Because of this, all plants must be annuals, except in designated perennial sections. Contact garden coordinator if interested in growing perennials.

Compost: There is not an active compost system at the Veteran’s Garden, thought there are onsite tumblers. Please contact the program if interested in initiating and maintaining regular compost maintenance.

Waste: There is not a garbage can available at the Veteran’s Community Garden. Waste must be carried out.

Other: Gardeners must weed the gravel around their plots, if applicable, as this area is their responsibility. Gardeners may not put rocks in grass, as they interfere with mowing.
